We use so many single use plastics without realising...19% of the UK population drinks bottled water everyday! Let's cut down! Get a reusable water/drinks bottle and take it with you wherever you go.
What difference does it make?
There are almost 8 billion plastic bottles used every year in the UK. That's around 120 units per person and a couple dozens kgs of CO2e emissions. Recylcing is a partial solution, but it's better not to use a single-use plastic bottled drink in the first place (or keep using the same one and refilling it!)
This activity lowers your carbon footprint by:
1.1 KG CO₂
What do you need?
- Reusable water bottle (can be an emptied plastic water bottle)
Step by step
Search your home for a water bottle or buy a reusable one that you'll look after.
Fill it with tap water and drink from it whenever needed.
When the water bottle is empty, repeat the process! Congrats! You've just made yourself a new life companion.
Need Help?
Yes! Even though it tends to be more fragile than a purposed reusable water bottle, it is far cheaper and emits far less CO2 than the iron/tin or greater quality plastic water bottle.
Try not to leave the same water in the bottle for too long, especially if the bottle is left in the heat. Other than that, yes - it's safe.
