Wembley stadium can hold 90,000 people.
Build a bug stadium. How many insects can fit in it?
What difference does it make?
Most plants need insects to make new seeds. Without insects, we wouldn't be able to grow food. Half of all bugs have been lost since 1970. Let's help to bring them back!
What do you need?
- String or twine
- Scissors A used carton or plastic bottle
- Broken bits of pot
- Pine cones
- Bamboo canes or hollow sticks
- Nut shells
Step by step
Collect hollow sticks, twigs and leaves, pine cones, stones etc from the garden or the park.
Use a carton or drinks bottle as the base. Cut a hole in the front. Fill up your bug stadium layer by layer. Make sure there are small gaps between the objects. That's where the insects will shelter and make their home.
Put your stadium on your balcony or window sill. Or if you have a garden you could hang it in a tree or bush or put it on the ground. Ideally it should face the sun during the day. Remember to take a photo with your finished stadium.
Bugs and insects like shade and shelter. Anywhere out of the wind, a shady tree or corner of your garden or balcony.
Recycle a regular carton or plastic bottle, anything between 1 and 1.5 liters is perfect!
